Dusty Springfield’s Relationship History is a Troubled One

Dusty Springfield relationship timeline and past relationship history are troubled and turmoiled.

Being a non-binary singer in the 60s was difficult for Springfield’s singer, especially because she had no desire to be with a man when it literally was a man’s world.

Dusty was allegedly in a domestic relationship with fellow singer Norma Tanega for several years from the mid-60s to the early 70s.

She was with several other women between the 70s and 80s. She also dated American photojournalist Faye Harris, with whom she had an on-and-off relationship that came to an end as Dusty next stepped into marriage.

Dusty Springfield tied the knot with Teda Brecci in 1983 but the marriage was invalid under California law at the time.

However, the marriage soon turned troublesome. Dusty reportedly was hit by a saucepan by Brecci, that led her to require plastic surgery.

The pair separated after two years of being together.

Dusty Springfield came out as non-binary in 1970s

The world became aware of Dusty’s orientation in 1970 when she opened up about her relationship with Tanega to Ray Conolly of Evening Standard.

She said: “Many other people say I’m bent, and I’ve heard it so many times that I’ve almost learned to accept it … I know I’m perfectly as capable of being swayed by a girl as by a boy. More and more people feel that way and I don’t see why I shouldn’t.”

Dusty coming out and giving a bold statement almost cost the singer her career. However, it did not stop Dusty making other statements after three years of the previous one.

She told Los Angeles Free Press: “The catchphrase is: I can’t love a man. Now, that’s my hang-up. To love, to go to bed, fantastic; but to love a man is my prime ambition… They frighten me.”
