According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, a suspect named Duane Heard is suspected of firing at a deputy who was on duty.
Deputies responded to a domestic violence incident on Chaffee Drive in the Oak Forest subdivision at around 3:20 p.m. Austin Derek Aldridge, a deputy for Spartanburg County, was shot as he approached the house.
According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Aldridge was rushed to the hospital where he tragically passed suddenly at roughly 9:26 p.m. Just 25 years old, he was.

Suspect Of Austin Aldridge Shooter Is Arrested
After the shooting, the suspect, Duane Heard, according to deputies, fled in a car.
Heard allegedly pretended to surrender before shooting at deputies once more as authorities sought to stop him near Anderson Mill Road and Highway 290. Fortunately, no deputies were hurt during this shooting battle.
Near the Keurig Dr. Pepper factory, Heard crashed his car and fled into the woods. Heard was apprehended after SWAT officers and K-9s were sent to find him in the woods.
It was not immediately clear when the suspect was injured, but deputies said that he was shot twice during one of the episodes.
The suspect was taken to the hospital and is likely to survive, according to Sheriff Chuck Wright.
