Derrick McLaughlin, who had started serving at the school in 2002, is now placed under police custody over the charges related to minor solicitation.

Derrick McLaughlin is a 41-year-old principal of the Warren Hope Dawson Elementary School in Riverview, Florida.
He was appointed as a principal in 2012 and had been watching over the entire elementary school for near decade.
But now he has been arrested and is expected to be fired from the position of principal.
Attached with the school since 2002, he was initially a teacher and after teaching for 4 years and 6 months, he was promoted as an assistant principal of the school.

Derrick McLaughlin was arrested for the minor solicitation after the investigators had sent an undercover detective towards him.
The 15-year-old unnamed detective was sent to the principal of Dawson Elementary School and soon started to feel the intentions of McLaughlin when he sent sexually explicit texts to the detective. Apparently, he thought that the detective was a juvenile.
The principal had initiated the conversation and had interacted with the detective 8 days before the arrest made by the officers of Hillsborough County Sherriff ‘s Office.
Upon arrest, Derrick had made statements of self-harm and has been placed under the Baker Act.
He has been charged with transmission of harmful material to a minor, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, and use of computer services to solicit certain illegal acts.
