While a college student, he had time to go see hypnotist Martin S Taylor and his performance inspired him in his chosen career as an illusionist and hypnotist. Also in undergrad, Darren Brown began working as a conjurer and performed traditional close-up magic tricks in bars and restaurants.

He finally came into the limelight when he met Jerry Sadowitz, magician and comedian at the International Magic shop in Clerkenwell, London.
