The killer of Mollie Olgin was apprehended two years after she was shot execution-style in the back of the head along with her girlfriend, Mary Kristene Chapa.
The murder happened on June 22, 2012, but the bodies of the two girls were discovered only a day later at Violet Andrews Park below a viewing deck.
According to Kristene Chapa, the gunman approached them wearing gloves and a mask. He forced Chapa to duct-tape Mollie before doing the same to herself.
After sexually assaulting them, he shot them in the back of the head. Mollie Olgin did not survive the night, and Kristene Chapa was rushed to the hospital. She was in critical condition. After regaining mobility, she described the gunman to the police to create a sketch.
In February of last year, the 13th Court of Appeals denied David Strickland’s motion for a retrial, but it seems that didn’t stop him for possibly trying once more. https://t.co/cmFJ3fJGwU

The court denied David Strickland’s appeal in February of 2020. According to Sam Smith, the District Attorney of San Patricio County, it was struck down by the judge.
However, it has been reported that his lawyers have filed a writ recently.
According to overwhelming evidence, the attorney of Strickland, Cynthia Orr claimed the original suspect, Dylan Wade Spellman, is the true perpetrator.
The DNA of Spellman had been on the pubic hair found on Chapa, and the cigarette butt and an energy drink found at the scene. Spellman had recently been convicted of an armed robbery in Nevada. Along with his accomplices, he had broken into a residence and tied and bound the people, including a child.
