A stage invader named Isaiah Lee sent Chappelle “flying” when he was performing at a Netflix comedy event in Los Angeles. Security personnel attacked the man, with Hollywood actor Jamie Foxx stepping in to defend the comedian.
The on-stage assault was the second in less than a month in Southern California on a comic in the middle of an act.
While there are still many unresolved issues about the individual who assaulted Chappelle at his live show this week, the motive for the incident has grown apparent as law enforcement officials divulge information on the leading suspect.
Who Is Dave Chappelle Attacker Isaiah Lee?
The man who jumped from the audience during Dave Chappelle’s act at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles as part of the “Netflix Is A Joke Fest” on Tuesday night has been identified as Isaiah Lee.
The Los Angeles Police Department established Lee was equipped with a replica gun that he reportedly aimed at Chappelle after tackling him.
The 23-year-old was detained and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, a felony. A knife with a small blade was also included with the imitation rifle.
In recent years, the comedian has ruffled some feathers with his comic material, although it was unclear whether Lee was one of those who took issue with Chappelle’s quips.
It’s also unclear what prompted him to go onto the platform and confront Chappelle.
What was clear was that Lee, an apparent aspiring rapper who rhymed under the title, NoName Trapper recorded at least one rap song disparaging Chappelle.
Furthermore, he has also recorded at least one other song in which he rapped about “Walkin’ straight into da Bowl,” which could be a reference to the Hollywood Bowl, where the attack occurred.
It was unclear whether Trump’s pro-Trump emotions were a factor in his attack on Chappelle on Tuesday night. Still, law enforcement authorities investigating the case are sure to look into it.
For his part, Chappelle has made no secret of his dislike for Trump.
Notably, TV anchor Sunny Hostin blamed Trump partly for the attacker’s actions, citing the former president’s “incivility” that she said he “unleashed” on America.
Know Isaiah Lee’s Whereabouts
Talking about where Isaiah Lee must be now, following the attack, his photos taken by media showed him being attacked with his right eyes heavily injured.
Lee was captured on tape lunging at Chappelle just seconds after the comic mentioned how he’d tightened up his security following his controversial statements against the trans community.
The attacker was also taken to the hospital as security pounced on him, with footage showing his arm wrenched and presumably snapped. He was brought to an ambulance while strapped to an upright gurney while being booed.
Lee was brought out wearing a T-shirt with “Hollywood” inscribed in flames comparable to the emblem for skating rag, Thrasher. He also looked to have a puffed-up, bleeding right eye and a bloody nose.
Isaiah was described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing just 140 pounds, with an address matching a homeless shelter in Los Angeles.
According to the comedian’s agent Carla Sims, who spoke to the Hollywood Reporter, Chappelle refused to let the incident dominate his gigs.
