Though Daniel Rodriguez claimed that the police officers responded within minutes, he was criticized by the reporters that the first responding officers refused to enter the building.
According to Uvalde police Chief Daniel Rodriguez, the police reacted ‘within minutes’ to a Texas school shooting.
However, Daniel did not address allegations that cops declined to enter the building, drawing widespread condemnation. He didn’t say whether those cops went into the building to confront the shooter.
Who Is Daniel Rodriguez?
Daniel Rodriguez is a police chief of Uvalde who said police did their best to intervene in the shooting. He is responsible for conducting press conferences.
Furthermore, Daniel added that officers arrived “within minutes” of the shooting at Robb Elementary School, but he did not specify if the officers stepped inside the school building.
After parents said that police officers at the school refused to go inside to stop the shooter, the department received backlash.
In a statement, Chief of Police Daniel Rodriguez said, “It is vital for our community to know that our officers reacted within minutes alongside Uvalde CISD police.”
According to Rodriguez, the offender shot two UPD officers who responded to the site. Neither of them is in danger of dying.
An official on camera said law enforcement had not yet verified if witnesses were urging the police to move in and discussing entering the school themselves during a press conference.
In contrast, reporters hurled questions about whether police had waited too long to enter Robb Elementary School amid the violence.
Uvalde Police Chief Late Response To Shooting Criticized
Uvalde Police chief’s unheard statement about the actual time of confrontation with the shooter has been backlashed by the public.
Earlier, authorities had stated that a law enforcement officer confronted the gunman before entering the school.
However, a regional director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, Victor Escalon, stated that the shooter entered the building unimpeded.
Gov. Greg Abbott (R) commended the first responders on Wednesday, saying the death toll would have been considerably worse if it hadn’t been for the “extraordinary fortitude” of the first responders.
However, recordings have emerged of concerned family members outside the school yelling at heavily armed police officers to engage the gunman.
On the other hand, the family members even attempted to rush inside the school while the authorities blocked their approach.
Abbott and other Texas officials provided a preliminary summary of Tuesday’s sad events on Wednesday.
They claimed Salvador Ramos had shot his grandmother before rushing into her pickup truck, crashing it at high speed near Robb Elementary, and then walking toward the school on foot.
