During his high school years, Cris was praised as an athlete and golfer, recording a golf handicap of four, and also was interested in surfing. Following his matriculation, Cris thought of becoming a professional golfer, however, he decided to go to college, and enrolled at Okaloosa-Walton Community College, and where he became interested in dancing. Little by little, Cris moved forward as a dancer, and in 1995 got a chance to dance next to Michael Jackson at the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards.
