Catherine Roper Partygate Allegations & Sue Gray Report
If those who break Covid guidelines at Downing Street contest their fines, Scotland Yard has vowed to take them to court.
Commander Catherine Roper, the head of the ‘celebrity squad,’ revealed that officers had received the entire folder of evidence gathered during the Cabinet Office investigation — and that officers would be writing to anyone who attended events to ask them to explain themselves.
After Sue Gray’s story revealed that police are investigating 12 events, including the prime minister’s birthday celebration and an alleged party inside his private flat, Commander Catherine Roper provided an update on the inquiry.
Police are evaluating a large amount of written information to determine which politicians and public servants will need to be contacted.
The Metropolitan Police said it would be essential to contact persons who attended these events to collect their accounts.
“The reason for this request is because officers in any inquiry seek independent narratives from each individual as free as possible from the influence of others’ recollections,” the statement continued.
According to a spokesperson, the Metropolitan Police said it would be “essential for us to contact persons who attended these events to collect their account,” according to a spokesperson.
“The reason for this request is because officers in any inquiry seek independent narratives from each individual as free as possible from the influence of others’ recollections,” the statement continued.
Officers would also try to avoid disclosing their investigation information to persons they contact in advance so that what is available in the public domain does not impact people.
People suspected of breaking Covid limits will be contacted in writing by the Metropolitan Police, who will question if they have a “just excuse” under the law for the gathering.
