Columbus grew up in Kansas City, and later his family moved to Los Angeles. Short began his career as a child actor in the theatre being five years old. However, as a feature film actor he debuted only in 2004. As with many actors, he started with minor roles, in the films “You Got Served” (2004), “War of the Worlds” (2005) and “Accepted” (2006). Later, he starred alongside Izabella Miko and Jacqueline Bisset in David Patrarca’s film “Save the Last Dance 2” (2006). This was followed by the lead role in the drama and dance film “Stomp the Yard” (2007) directed by Sylvain White. Although it received mostly negative reviews, the film was financially successful with box office takings of $75.7 million. More, Columbus was nominated for an Image Award, two MTV Movie Awards and Teen Choice Award for the previously mentioned role. Short successfully played a supporting role in the music biopic “Cadilac Records” (2008) directed by Darnell Martin. For the role of Little Walter he won the Black Reel Award as well as being nominated for two more awards, though the film failed at the box office. Columbus was cast in the main role in the comedy drama film “This Christmas” (2007) directed and produced by Preston A. Whitmore II, the science fiction horror film “Quarantine” (2008) directed by John Erick Dowdle, the thriller films “Whiteout” (2009) directed by Dominic Sena, Stuart Baird and Len Wiseman, “Armored” (2009) directed by Nimrod Antal, and the comedy film “Death at a Funeral” (2010) directed by Neil LaBute which have also added significantly to the total size of Columbus Short’s net worth. The latest role landed by the actor was the main role in the Julius Onah film “The Girls in Trouble” (2015).

Regarding Columbus Short’s career in television, among a number of episodic roles, he starred in the political thriller series “Scandal” (2012 – 2014) created by Shonda Rhimes.
