The CBS cameras caught a friendly conversation between Hoffman and his caddy, Brett Waldman, during the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational final round of 2017, which provided insight into how the seasoned tour professional feels about his string of close calls this year.
Waldman instructed Hoffman to lay up when standing 282 yards out on the “monster” par-5 16th hole at Firestone’s South Course and three shots off the lead. That was NOT acceptable to Charley.
Hoffman not only told his caddie to leave but also made the shot like a pro. Sadly, a shoddy chip and putt resulted in a depressing par, and Hoffman placed six shots behind the victor Hideki Matsuyama. Nevertheless, it was a fantastic exchange between a player and caddy that we hardly ever get to see.
