Cecily Strong is a writer and actor famous for her role on Saturday Night Live. Her journey on SNL began when she debuted as a featured player in September 2012. In the next season, she co-anchored Weekend Update with Seth Meyers. Strong wanted to focus on doing sketches as part of the regular cast and at her own request, she was replaced on Weekend Update by Michael Che.
Strong also has several film and TV appearances. Cecily is a stunning actress, and she is quite vocal about her dating life. We can confirm that Cecily isn’t married, but she is in a relationship.
Cecily and her mystery boyfriend Jack met at a 2019 Christmas party
In her upcoming memoir This Will All Be Over Soon (due to be released in August 2021), Cecily writes of her boyfriend Jack, who she met at a 2019 Christmas party. Strong writes that she was tired of her friends trying to set her up. “I’m doing great!” she describes her single life. Nevertheless, she agrees to talk to the cute man with a moustache.
After a night together, “‘Can I give you my number?’” he asks.” The man writes his phone number on the back of an old receipt alongside the name ‘Jack.’ The timing isn’t great – Jack is going to Cuba and Cecily will be in California for a month – but the couple keeps talking. Strong soon discovers Jack’s love for women’s football.
The couple’s bond grows closer as the coronavirus pandemic looms. On one night out, Jack proposes a trick to absolve Cecily of her habit of picking the skin behind her nails when she is nervous. “I want you to feel like you can hold my hand instead,” Jack says. “I don’t tell him, but it’s one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me,” Cecily writes (per Vulture).
The couple talks the night away, and by dawn, they are officially dating. The new relationship confounds Cecily as the death of her beloved cousin Owen looms on the horizon. She explains:
“At first I thought it was so difficult to meet someone right as I was losing someone I loved so much. I knew he’d have to be patient with me. He’d have to let me grieve. It would be easier not to even try during that process. But grieving for Owen was like nothing I’d ever experienced, and I promised Owen and myself to continue to let all the love be there along with the sadness.”
Cecily thinks of Jack as a gift from Owen. Sadly, Owen passes, and Jack contracts the coronavirus. Strong’s mental health dips. “I’m upset with him for not understanding why I constantly need to know he’s okay,” Strong writes. “What if Jack dies?” Jack is sick, but he will pull through. Cecily thanks Owen for her new-found love:
“He taught me about love during his life and he’s teaching me about love after.”
She was in a relationship with SNL writer Mike O’Brien
Back in 2014, Cecily was in a relationship with SNL writer Mike O’Brien. They worked together on SNL in 2014, and they started dating. Cecily knew that relationships with co-workers are generally frowned upon, but she proceeded with the relationship regardless. Cecily talked to Cosmopolitan about the issue;
“Absolutely. It’s probably stupid. But I got the okay from my dad, who is a business professional. It happens. The good thing is I never feel like I’m complaining or talking about my job too much.”
It’s unclear when the relationship ended, but in 2015, the couple didn’t post any updates about their relationship.
Strong went on to date with a mystery Italian man
Cecily’s breakup with Mike was confirmed in 2016 when she talked about dating a mystery Italian man. She stated in an interview with Vanity Fair; “I was just in Rome. I’m having an Italian love affair. I first met him in Seville, Spain, before I broke my foot in Ibiza.”
Cecily talked about her new man at length, but she didn’t reveal his identity. She continued;
“He’s studying to be a diplomat, which is nice. It’s all very new. So who knows if it’ll be a thing? But it’s still fun. He reminds me of Roberto Benigni in a way. We’ve talked every day for two months. I’m not rushing into anything, I promise. If I were too emotionally attached, I’d be too scared to talk about it.”
Strong didn’t reveal more about the relationship afterwards, and so, we do not know whether the relationship ended or not.
