Cassidy Hutchinson testified before the House committee looking into the disturbance in the U.S. on January 6, 2021, on Tuesday. A last-minute meeting of the Capitol was called to hear fresh evidence.
Stefan Passantino, who purportedly still has close ties to Trump, has recently been replaced as Hutchinson’s lawyer by Jody Hunt of Alston Bird. With strong links to former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Bird is a former Justice Department lawyer.
Who Is Casey Hutchinson? Mark Meadows Aide
Casey Hutchinson served as an aide to Mark Meadow, who happens to be the chief of Donald Trump. As she will be the first employee from the White House to testify publicly, her presence has been considered quite big.
She has already testified for about 20 hours while sitting down with the committee’s investigators four times.
Hutchinson has supplied information on operations taking place around the White House as an assistant to Meadows, who himself was at the center of efforts between the campaign, Congress, and the Justice Department to deny the results of the 2020 presidential election.
The committee utilized a recorded interview with Hutchinson to identify the Republican members who had written to Trump requesting pardons. Her evidence revealed that Meadows had received a warning about the possibility of violence on January 6. Hutchinson also disclosed to the investigators that the White House legal team had cautioned against the Trump campaign’s use of an alternative elector system.
Casey Hutchinson Jan 6 Testimony
In the video testimony from last week, the former Meadows assistant claimed that GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz had been requesting a pardon from the White House since early December, and also mentioned that Reps. Andy Biggs, Louie Gohmert, Mo Brooks, and Scott Perry had done the same. Gaetz told John McEntee, a former White House adviser, that he requested Meadows for a pardon, according to McEntee.
Hutchinson further stated in court that she had learned that Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene had asked the White House Counsel’s office for a pardon. Later, each individual member listed by name refuted the accusations.
The committee released two videos of her speaking on the actions taken by the White House before, during, and after the horrific attack on the Capitol. Some in Washington had speculated earlier this month that she may give live testimony at one of the committee’s public meetings.
