According to her allegation, she was taken by a man, working for then-defense industry minister Linda Reynolds into Parliament House after a Friday night drinking session in March 2019 and was allegedly raped by him inside the defense minister’s office.
Then, defense minister Linda reported the rape, but Huggins was side-lined and given little support, and pressured to leave her job.
She had no choice instead to continue working as an employee since she felt forced to choose between filing a formal complaint and continuing her job. She resigned from the government when her allotted term had expired.
Higgins spoke alone with the prime minister, later described as “tough.”
The prime minister was blamed for using victim-blaming language when he spoke about Higgins’s case.
Several lawmakers in federal and state parliaments had been accused of sexual assault and misconduct this year.
Among the people, government minister Christian Porter is one, but he has strongly denied accusations that he raped a girl and was a teenager.
