Aziaha James, the Class 5 Player of the Year, guided Princess Anne to its seventh consecutive girls’ basketball state title.
A stock-riser in the class of 2021, the athletic left-handed combo-guard produces shots, divides defenders, and attacks in the mid-range game; alters pace in the uptempo game, and finishes plays to the rim in transition.
An athletic lefty off-guard rises to a mid-range jumper and delivers with confidence. He is acrobatic at the rim in an open floor game and difficult to contain.
Aziaha James Brother Ashley James
Aziaha James felt compelled to do so in memory of her brother, Ashley (DJ) James, murdered in an unintentional shooting on Monday.
James honored her brother with 32 minutes of basketball perfection, from the layup she made on a feed from Jasha Clinton for the first points of the game to the jumper from the baseline. She hoped as the last buzzer sounded.

Aziaha James Career
She was a nightmare on the glass on both ends, grabbing 103 of her 228 rebounds (8.8 per game) on the offensive end.
Her 4.8 thefts per game were just a smidgeon fewer than teammate Jasha Clinton’s 4.9 per game – the Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year.
“I’m delighted for her, and I’m sure her team is pleased for her,” Dozier said of James. Dozier played all five positions for us this year.
“We didn’t have a center for half of the year (because of the injury to starter Michelle Ojo), and she stepped up and played center for us.” We depended on her shooting skills and her ability to do other things well. “
Aziaha James finished the most challenging week of her life by playing the most crucial game of her life.
“She came back with a completely different mindset this year,” (Princess Anne girls’ basketball coach) Darnell Dozier remarked.
“She was prepared to play and knew exactly what to do and how to handle herself.” And certain nights, she believes she can score 40 points, but that’s not how our program works because we have other individuals who can achieve.
But she’s on a decent team, and what she’s learned is teamwork, how to play with other lovely kids. That will help her prepare for the next level of college. “
“Once she gets used to being knocked about, I think she’ll be one of the top players in Virginia,” Dozier said of Aziaha, who already has scholarship offers from James Madison and Old Dominion, as well as interest from Maryland, Wake Forest, Clemson, North Carolina, and Florida.
