Ayrton Senna Wiki Biography

Ayrton Senna da Silva was born on 21 March 1960, in Sao Paulo, Brazil – but took his mother’s maiden name Senna – and was a racing car driver, best known to have won three Formula One World Championships for McLaren. He was active from 1984 until his death in 1994, and is considered as one of the greatest Formula One drivers of all time. All of his efforts helped put his net worth to where it was prior to his passing.

How rich is Ayrton Senna? As of mid-2017, sources estimate a net worth that was at $400 million, mostly earned through a successful career in Formula One. He won numerous races throughout his career and all of these achievements ensured the position of his wealth.

Ayrton Senna Net Worth $400 million

At a young age Ayrton developed an interest for motorsports and cars. However, he suffered from poor motor coordination, but eventually improved his skills and at the age of 13 was already competing in karting competitions. He attended Colegio Rio Branco and after matriculating, went to study business administration, but dropped out after a few months.

In 1977, Senna won the South American Kart Championship. Four years later, he moved to England and transitioned to single-seater racing, winning the Townsend-Thoreson Formula Ford 1600 Championship. He was then offered a drive for a Formula Ford 2000 team, and would win both the 1982 British and European Formula Ford 2000 championships. The following year, he won the British Formula Three Championship and the inaugural Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix.

Ayrton then started testing for Formula One teams, and was given a contract that would eventually increase his net worth. He drove with the relatively new team Toleman and teamed with Johnny Cecotto. He made his debut in the 1984 Brazilian Grand Prix, then getting two World Championship points at the South African Grand Prix as well as the Belgian Grand Prix. He started to develop the ability to provide very specific technical details about the performance of his cars and the tracks, which helped him continue to improve, and he took two more podium finishes in the season. In 1985, he was partnered with Lotus-Renault and would take his first pole position at the Portuguese Grand Prix. This was his first “Grand Slam” as he also set the fastest lap. He got another victory in wet conditions at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. His net worth was rising.

He started the next season well and won the Spanish Grand Prix though he had troubles in some races. He still won the Detroit Grand Prix later in the season. He won two races in a row in the next season, helping him take lead in the World Championship. However, with better performing cars from his rivals, he decided to move to McLaren in 1988.

He started to work with then double world champion Alain Prost in McLaren. The two would have a rivalry, but still worked together to prepare against the opposition, and the pair would win 15 of 16 races in the McLaren MP4/4. In 1988, Senna would win his first world championship, and during that year he broke several records. Prost would leave McLaren the following year, and Senna would become the world champion again in 1990 after a collision deciding victory against Prost, and would become the youngest three time world champion the following year.

He continued to race until 1994 when he crashed during the San Marino Grand Prix, his car going straight into the concrete retaining wall.

In his Formula One career, from 161 races, Senna had 41 wins and 80 podiums (first three), plus 65 pole positions and 19 fastest laps.

For his personal life, it is known that Senna was married to Lilian de Vasconcelos Souza from 1981 to 1982. He was also engaged to Adriane Yamin, but their relationship ended in 1988. He dated television star Xuxa from 1988 to 1990 and would then date Christine Ferracciu. It was also reported that he had an affair with model Carol Alt. At the time of his death, he was in a relationship with model Adriane Galisteu. He passed away as a result of the accident while racing at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.

Quote
1 Emotion, pleasure and challenge. – when asked about what he felt at 300 km/h
2 I have no idols. I admire work, dedication and competence.
3 I’m very privileged. I’ve always had a very good life. But everything that I’ve gotten out of life was obtained through dedication and a tremendous desire to achieve my goals. I had a great desire for victory, meaning victory in life, not as a driver. To all of you who have experienced this or are searching now, let me say that whoever you may be in your life, whether you’re at the highest or the most modest level, you must show great strength and determination, and do everything with love and with a deep belief in God. One day you’ll achieve your aim and you’ll be successful.
4 If I have achieved what I have, and managed to do everything I did, it is largely due to having had the chance to grow up well in a family environment, living decently with no economic problems, and being guided towards the right road at decisive points in my life.
5 There are no small accidents on this circuit” – talking about the race at Imola circuit [30 April 1994]
6 Racing, competing, is in my blood. It’s part of me. It’s part of my life.

6 Teammates in Formula One were: Johnny Cecotto, Stefan Johansson, Elio De Angelis, Johnny Dumfries, Satoru Nakajima, Alain Prost, Gerhard Berger, Michael Andretti, Mika Häkkinen and Damon Hill.
7 F1 Racing Magazine voted him the greatest Formula 1 driver of all time in 2004.
8 His last girlfriend was Adriane Galisteu.
9 Son of Neyde Senna and Milton Theodoro Silva.
10 Younger brother of Viviane Senna and older brother of Leonardo Senna.
11 Held the record of most pole positions in Formula One with 65 of them. Since his first in pole position in June 1985 until his tragic death on the 1st of May in 1994, he had earned altogether 65 pole positions. Eventually he was overtaken – more than a decade later – by Michael Schumacher in April 2006, but his record for pole positions remained to be the hardest one to overtake during the time of modern tracks.
12 Had his look-alike puppet in the French show Les guignols de l’info (1988).
13 He always had a Brazilian flag hidden in his car in the case he won the race. At the time of his death he had an Austrian flag in his car to commemorate a fellow race car driver Roland Ratzenberger of Austria, who was killed on the same track the day before in a car crash as well.
14 First win race in Formula One: Portugal (1985)
15 Many experts were convinced that the cause must have been mechanical failure: Senna could not have lost control of his vehicle for any other reason. An inquiry concluded that the accident was caused by a snapped steering column. As a result, manslaughter charges were brought against six members of Senna’s Williams racing team. However, all of them were eventually acquitted, and in 1997 the prosecutor’s appeal was rejected.
16 Died in a Bologna hospital from severe head injuries resulting from a crash on Imola’s famous Tamburello bend.
17 Although in Formula One Grand Prix wins he was behind his chief rival Alain Prost, at the time of his death he had achieved 65 Pole Positions, one short of twice as many as Prost and the other second place holder, Jim Clark, who had 33 each. Michael Schumacher took 12 years to beat Senna’s record, recording his 66th pole position, ironically, at the San Marino Grand Prix in 2006.
18 Raced for Toleman (1984), Lotus (1985-1987), McLaren (1988-1993) and Williams (1994).
