Ashle Ferris is the police officer at Lakewood who shot and killed the gunman, Lyndon McLeod, who killed five people on December 27.
Ashley was admitted to the hospital after being shot in the stomach by McLeod. She had undergone surgery on Wednesday.
McLeod allegedly ran into Ferris at Alaska and Vance Streets in the Belmar shopping center, according to a report. As he approached her, Ferris ordered him to drop his weapon.

“The loss of life and injuries has weighed heavily on our hearts.”
Not only this, Ferris has been awarded the Lakewood Police Department Lifesaving Award for her actions in assisting in the resuscitation of a woman involved in a medical emergency in 2018.
The incident happened near Alameda Avenue and Pierce Street, where Ferris assisted in performing CPR on the woman until she began breathing again.

According to Lakewood Police Public Information Officer John Romero, the front desk employee at the Hyatt House died after being shot multiple times.
She was the fifth victim of the gunman’s spree, whose name was Sarah Steck. As per Romero, McLeod entered the Hyatt House and shot her several times after a brief conversation.
In addition to her, there are four people who died on a Monday night in a shooting spree. Furthermore, three people were injured and taken to the hospital, one of whom was a Lakewood officer.
Ashley, the Lakewood officer, is currently in hospital recovering from a major abdomen operation.
