Who Is Amani Iqbal? Why Did Her Boyfriend Kill Her?
Amani Iqbal is a Walthamstow resident who died on 3 January 2021.
The police had discovered her unresponsive at her home on Thornbury Avenue at 8 am. She passed away despite the attempts made by the paramedics. At the time, the post mortem reports of the 28-year-old were inconclusive, failing to find the death cause.
And as per the recent reports of 24 March 2022, investigators believe that Amani’s partner, Jay Dawes, killed her and then himself. Reportedly, he notified his drug dealer about getting rid of her.
Jay, in a red Peugeot, crashed into a parked lorry. The incident took place in a lay-by on A11, south Cambridgeshire, on 2 January 2021. The collision resulted in his death at the scene. At the time, there were traces of cocaine in his system.
The lorry blazed up in flames, and firefighters from Cambridge, Linton, and Saffron Walden addressed the incident but couldn’t save the 28-year-old’s life.
The last time people saw Amani alive was on New Year’s eve.
A pre-inquest review hearing on Tuesday, 22 March, at Waltham Forest Coroner’s Court decided to perform a Homicide Review in the upcoming months to establish the circumstances of Amani and Jay’s relationship.
Likewise, Senior Coroner Nadia Persaud mentioned examining Jay’s connection with drug and alcohol services. Since 2018, he hadn’t accessed mental health support.
Similarly, Amani’s family emphasized that she hadn’t signed up for any mental health or support services. Furthermore, they denied receiving any indications of domestic violence before her untimely demise.
Jay’s drug dealer is one of the key witnesses in the inquiry as he received a call or text on the last day people saw Amani alive. Her family wishes him to cooperate. Jay talked to him about getting rid of her, breaking up with her, and being happy.
The reason why Amani’s boyfriend murdered her remains unknown. However, On September 14, at Waltham Forest, a full inquiry will take place. As for Jay’s it will be on the following day, 15 September.
Before her death, Amina was a Marketing Propositions Manager at Sainsbury’s. In addition to that, she had several work experiences, including at Mediacom (Planner and Media Executive), Fifty Media (Account Manager), Gifted Hands Events (Assistant Event Planner), and RoamYo (Brand Manager).
In 2010, she completed her A levels from The Latymer School. Then, she graduated from Durham University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) and Masters of Science (Marketing, Strategy, and Innovation) from Case Business School in 2015.

Amani Iqbal’s family had set up a JustGiving page.
Its objective is to raise money for the Make-a-Wish foundation. Reportedly, the charity had helped Amani when she was a teenager. Till now, 164 people have raised £5,348 ($7,055.16).
There aren’t many details about Amani’s family online. However, the funding page hints at Samina Iqbal and Mohammed Iqbal to be the relatives.
