Who is Ali Michael?
Ali was born Alexandra Nicole Michael on May 15, 1990 in Colleyville, Texas, where she was also raised. Ali developed a passion for modeling while attending Grapevine High School and decided to pursue it as a full-time career. At the age of 15, she left school to start modeling professionally.
Her career started right after she won the 2005 Dallas/Kim Dawson Model Search Contest. She would later return to finish high school and graduate in May 2008. Ali Michael’s first modeling contract was in 2006 with DNA Models. Under the agency, she had to appear in an Italian Elle editorial.
After two jobs in New York, including her fall runway debut in New York, Ali Michael moved to New York to focus more on expanding her career. Before moving to New York, Michael had to travel to Europe to find jobs: the Marc Jacobs show in London and the Lanvin fall show in Paris. She then appeared in top magazines like W, Harper’s Bazaar, Teen Vogue and the French Revue de Modes
Although she has described her relationship with New York as love-hate (which is completely understandable that she was originally a peasant girl), the city has been good to her. In February 2008, about two years into her career, Ali Michael was hit by a jolt. She had been ejected from Paris fashion week for having too tender legs. Apparently, the young model had only gained 5 kilos following a struggle with something that has unfortunately become commonplace among models: anorexia.
In the same month, the Wall Street Journal made his experience the subject of their article entitled; “ Wasn’t skinny supposed to be out of fashion? A few months later, Michael appeared on an episode of The Today Movie Show where she chronicled the issues facing models in the industry, pressure to stay slim.
She shed some light on her frightening experience of suffering from the eating disorder. Along with anorexia, she was also diagnosed with another eating disorder called bulimia nervosa. In September 2008, Ali Michael was back in the saddle at Spring Fashion Weeks in London, Milan and Paris.
The eating disorder bump turned out to be a blessing in disguise as Ali Michael quickly achieved better things. She signed several new contracts, including a fragrance deal with Jeanne Lanvin of Lanvin; the face of Anna Sui’s new campaign, as well as deals with Lord and Taylor, Gianfranco Ferre and Coach, Inc.
Ali Michael’s career has since risen. She was named Playboy Playmate of the Month in July 2016. She has long signed with Next Management.
