Alexandra del Moral Mealer is the current opposition for Lina Hidalgo for the upcoming election.
She starkly opposes Hidalgo on the issues of crime and believes that Hidalgo and her ilk are woefully ignorant and ill-equipped to handle the rise of crime in Harris County.
As Harris County is the third most populous county in all of America, there is bound to be a lot of crime in the area.
She is standing up to Hidalgo and the democratic party in order to put a stop to what she thinks is their ineptitude in dealing with this problem. She has risen a great deal and earned a lot of popularity within Harris County because many people are getting sick of Hidalgo.
The reason why could be attributed to racism, but so far, that is only conjecture. She is of Hispanic descent too, but she is fair-passing, which has made her very popular with the Republican party.

Who Is Alexandra del Moral Mealer? Wikipedia Bio
Alexandra del Moral Mealer has come into the political stage claiming to be a lot of things.
The Houston Heights resident is married, a proud mother of two, a combat veteran, a Harvard JD/MBA graduate, and a proud second-generation Hispanic American. She is originally from Sacramento, California, but when I was in the Army, she and her family moved to Houston.
Like so many others from California, her family moved to Houston in quest of opportunities and a higher standard of living. She looked to her grandfathers for guidance because she was raised by a single mother of three who also worked as a nurse.
From a young age, she was moved by their tales of leadership and dedication. Franklin Gillespie, her maternal grandpa, was the first member of his family to complete high school, and thanks to his stint in the U.S. Navy, he also became the first member of his family to complete college.
Armando del Moral, her paternal grandfather, led the opposition to the fascist commander and dictator Francisco Franco. He was ultimately compelled to depart Spain as a political refugee, where he later attained U.S. citizenship by serving in the country’s army.
Armando del Moral, a citizen of the United States, was a prolific writer and a pioneer in the Hispanic entertainment sector.
He co-founded the Golden Globe Awards and, more significantly, represented the Mexican film actors union, where he received numerous honors for his contributions to the Hispanic community. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, she made the decision to continue her grandfather’s legacy and enroll at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
She worked as an explosive ordnance disposal officer after graduating (Army bomb squad). She displayed the abilities needed to lead in challenging situations through her experience commanding soldiers in battle.
After serving her country, she earned degrees from Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School before relocating to Houston to pursue a career in energy finance.
There, she worked as a strategic advisor on billion-dollar mergers and acquisitions deals and capital markets financing for both public and private companies. She is adamant that the people are the source of power and that the government exists to serve them.
She asserted that it is not the role of the government to manage people’s businesses or their children’s upbringing. However, it is the responsibility of the government to create a safe and secure neighborhood with a public infrastructure that supports everyone’s opportunity for growth.
One of Mealer’s talking points is that the Harris County Commissioner’s Court has failed its constituents on all counts under Judge Lina Hidalgo.
She has vowed to hold Judge Lina Hidalgo responsible for her failed policies, saying she is prepared to do so. She says Harris County must take a position because it cannot stand by as its community is thrown into crisis after crisis.
Alexandra del Moral Mealer Is An American Politician
Alexandra del Moral Mealer has clearly defined her politics and strategies, perhaps as an affront to Lina Hidalgo.
The Commissioners Court oversees Harris County and comprises four Commissioners elected to four-year terms from different precincts. Currently, two Democrats and two Republicans are on the court, with Judge Lina Hidalgo casting the deciding vote.
The following are some of the court’s major duties:
- Adopting a county budget
- Setting tax rates
- Raising new debt by placing bonds on the ballot
- Investing in infrastructures like flood mitigation, roads/bridges, and parks
- Overseeing the criminal justice system like law enforcement, prosecutors, courthouses, and jails.
Additionally, the County Judge is in charge of emergency response (hurricanes, pandemics, etc.) She has claimed that she is exceptionally qualified to direct the County’s emergency response because she is a West Point graduate, a combat veteran, and a former Army bomb squad Captain.
She has claimed that, as a former vice president in the energy banking industry with a JD/MBA from Harvard, she possesses the financial knowledge necessary to prepare the County’s budget, manage taxes, and steer the organization through challenging economic times. One of her biggest focuses is on crime, and she has stated that crime, especially violent crime, has become a crisis of a huge nature.
She claims that Lina Hidalgo, however, does nothing and, worse than that, that the sharp increase in crime is directly related to her policies. The County’s lawlessness is fixable mainly, which is the sole encouraging development.
Mealer has said she is honored to have been selected as a choice for the County Judge by a sizable majority of Harris County law enforcement. Her primary driving force for starting this campaign was restoring the neighborhoods’ safety.
The County Judge’s leadership position entails creating a strategy and carrying it through. She has said she would work with elected law enforcement officials to ensure they have the resources and tools they need to combat the pandemic of violent crime in Harris County.
As a County Judge, she has stated that she will aggressively fund the criminal justice system and close the revolving door at the courthouse.
Additionally, according to Mealer, this election is about the restoration of good governance, which should be assessed by how well its essential services serve Harris County’s citizens.
It is difficult to find a case where the County provided an excellent service, whether it be the criminal courtroom backlog, which has increased to more than 130,000 cases (2X since Hurricane Harvey).
Although Lina Hidalgo promised an honest and open government, Harris County has been let down.
According to Mealer, Lina Hidalgo’s government may be summed up simply by saying, “spend more, deliver less.”
Alexandra del Moral Mealer’s administration decides how much money to steal from our community by creating the ideal wish list of pet projects, even if that means raising taxes by more than 8% in a year.
Now, in the face of record inflation, skyrocketing gas prices, and job losses brought on by needless COVID-19 lockdowns, she queries whether Harris County wants someone in charge who is continuously requesting more money. Harris County has an issue with excessive spending rather than a problem with money.
Who Is Alexandra del Moral Mealer’s Husband?
Alexandra del Moral Mealer’s husband’s identity has not been revealed to the public.
However, she is married and has had two children with her husband, who, one can assume, is very supportive of her career. He has been seen with her whenever she comes to talk about her political strategies on her pulpit. His support, along with those of the Republicans, has made her stand a lot stronger than her opponents.
According to her most recent campaign finance report, Mealer raised more than $4.9 million between July 1 and September 29.
This amount is significantly more than the $301,000 that Emmett raised during his unsuccessful 2018 reelection campaign during a comparable time. With the exception of Abbott, Mealer outraised every statewide Republican contender during that time.
On the other hand, Hidalgo had a larger contributor base but raised only approximately $1.5 million from July through September, which is less than a third of Mealer’s total.
Richard Weekley and Alan Hassenflu, real estate investors and co-founders of Texans for Lawsuit Reform, are two of Mealer’s top contributors. They gave $400,000 and $350,000, respectively. Mealer also received $350,000 from Houston billionaire Jeffery Hildebrand and his wife, Melinda.
She also received $100,000 from the hard-right Defend Texas Liberty PAC, led by former state representative Jonathan Stickland and funded by individuals such as West Texas oil tycoons Tim Dunn and Farris Wilks.
She has outspent Hidalgo by more than two to one, spending $3.5 million to Hidalgo’s $1.4 million.
This includes spending money on radio and television advertisements, such as the Mattress Mack ad and another in which she appears alongside the victims’ families.
In response, Hidalgo has criticized Mealer for remaining silent about the state’s broad ban on abortions in the wake of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision earlier this year. Mealer stands charged with “keeping silent while women’s lives are in jeopardy” in a Hidalgo advertisement.
She has centered her campaign on reducing crime. She has questioned Hidalgo on spending on law enforcement, which accounts for over 60% of the county’s $2.1 billion general fund budget and has increased each year Hidalgo has been in office.
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Houston region, like almost every other significant U.S. metro area, experienced an increase in violent crime, including homicides.
In Harris County, there were 566 homicides in 2020, a 42% rise from the year prior, before COVID-19 struck. Homicides increased slowly, by around 12%, to 633 homicides the next year.
She stated that she intends to hire 1,000 more county law enforcement personnel to handle the increase. Increasing the number of police officers in a community generally lowers crime rates, according to policing experts, but the impact on violent crime is less certain.
Although she hasn’t provided a comprehensive plan, Mealer has said she would use a combination of budget cuts and federal stimulus funds to pay for the extra cops. Hidalgo rejected Mealer’s plan because the county already had hundreds of open law enforcement positions.
An increase for county law enforcement officers is included in the proposed county budget that Republicans have blocked in an effort to improve officer recruitment and retention, she added. A criminal case backlog that stretches back to Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and developed due to the courts ceasing to hold in-person trials during the COVID-19 outbreak has been a problem for Harris County courts.
According to county court data, the backlog of criminal cases was reduced to 41,344 as of September from a peak of nearly 54,000 during the summer of 2021.
Critics, notably Mealer, have claimed that criminals are committing new offenses as they wait to be tried for older ones.
However, crime experts have pointed out little evidence to support this argument. The same crime experts say that the causes of crime’s peaks and valleys in any given location are too complicated to be attributed to a single factor.
