The second son of one of the most prominent of Indian poets, Harivanshrai Bachchan, and his wife Teji Bachchan, Ajitabh grew up in his hometown but then, alongside his brother, Amitabh, who is now a renowned actor, moved to Nainital, where the two attended Sherwood College.

Following the end of his education, Ajitabh lived in Kolkata and then Mumbai for a while, before moving abroad, and settling in London, England.
