Who Is Achouackh Abakar Souleymane? Everything To Know About The Actress

Achouackh Abakar Souleymane is a Chadian actress best known for her role as “Amina” in the 2021 film Lingui, directed by Mahamat-Saleh Haroun.

Mahamat-Saleh Haroun grew up surrounded by women, and it instilled in him a respect for women. However, it was only last year, in 2021, when he neared his 60s, he directed his first film with female leads.

Lingui, the Sacred Bonds tells the story of Amina, a single mother who is horrified to discover her 15-year-old daughter is pregnant and wants an abortion. Amina adamantly refuses at first as it is illegal in Chad. Moreover, they are Muslim, and the religion bans it.

However, as the film progresses, she changes her mind and starts to question, “How do I get the abortion done?” Lingui is a film about women’s resistance and an outspoken critique of Chad’s patriarchy.

It really does stay with you. Achouackh Abakar Souleymane is phenomenal. #Lingui https://t.co/vF2nOWBgJX

She began shooting the film when her son was three months old. She would take a break every hour to breastfeed her baby boy. At the beginning of her shoot, she had to put on makeup to give her dark circles.

However, after a few weeks, the makeup became unnecessary.
