Awkwafina has announced that she will be retiring from Twitter specifically, at least until 2024, but not from other social media platforms, citing mental health concerns from her therapist.

Her father, Wally, is Chinese American, and her mother, Tia, is a Korean painter who emigrated to the United States in 1972 from South Korea.

She was four years old when her mother died of pulmonary hypertension, and she was reared by her father and paternal grandparents, getting very close to her paternal grandmother.
Her paternal great-grandfather was a Chinese immigrant in the 1940s who started Lum’s, one of the neighborhood’s earliest Chinese restaurants, in Flushing, Queens.
Awkwafina Controversy On Twitter
Awkwafina is leaving Twitter after pondering on a years-long saga around her claimed “Blaccent, “referring to the social media platform where she has gotten the most abuse as an “ingrown toenail.”
Awkwafina has re-addressed her “Blaccent” scandal by exiting Twitter, where she has gotten the most venomous abuse.
The 33-year-old actress said, “She’s stepping away from Twitter’s ingrown toenail.
The actress has received criticism on social media for stealing Black culture and employing a “blaccent” during her early rap career, as well as for her performance as Peik Lin in “Crazy Rich Asians.”
In a September interview with Reuters, she was questioned about the negative comments and said she was “open to the dialogue.”
To Clarify: I am retiring from the ingrown toenail that is Twitter. Not retiring from anything else, even if I wanted to, and I didn’t drunkenly hit someone with a shoehorn and now escaping as a fugitive. Also am avail on all other socials that don’t tell you to kill yourself!
