Gotham is the Fox television show that started airing on September 22, 2014. It tells the story of the city of Gotham before Bruce Wayne became a full-fledged Batman. The tale explores the city from the perspective of one of Batman’s most important and popular allies, James Gordon, the honest man who would fight many of Gotham City’s villains alongside Batman, the Cape Crusader.
The show was a critical success and it is currently in its fourth season. It also explores the origin stories of many of Batman’s iconic villains such as Ra’s al Ghul, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Scarecrow, Solomon Grundy and others, it’s a fun and intriguing watch. Who are the cast of Gotham?
Due to the expansive nature of the DC Universe in which Batman exists and the many actors who are part of his mythology, Gotham’s cast is quite large. Here are the few main ones.
Ben McKenzie
Ben McKenzie is one of the main cast members of the series. He plays honest police detective, James Gordon. Ben is a former star of the show, The OC where he played Ryan Atwood. He was signed to the series in February 2014.
David Mazouz
David plays Bruce Wayne on the show as a teenager. Prior to Gotham, he appeared on other series like Toucher for which he received a Young Artist Award nomination. David Mazouz was chosen after several back and forths by the production team because of the delicacy of the character. He was signed up for the show on March 14, 2014.
Sean Pertwee
The English actor plays Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s trusted butler. The iconic character has been credited to Sean Pertwee, whose full filmography includes the show, Elementary. His iteration of the loyal butler was inspired by the Earth-One version of the character.
Nicholas D’Agosto
Nicholas D’Agosto plays Harvey Dent, the prosecutor who was an ally of Bruce Wayne and James Gordon for many years before he turned into a villain. Nicholas started out as a guest star on the show when he was cast in July 2014, but moved up to a series regular in the second season.
Camren Bicondova
Catwoman is one of Batman’s main enemies. Over the years, she’s been a villain, an ally, or a lover. She is played on Gotham by Camren Bicondova. Camren, who is not only an actress but also a dancer, has a deep understanding of Selina Kyle, real name Catwoman. She once described her image thus: “She is not just a street thief and a survivor; she’s actually just a normal girl.” Camren was cast as the iconic character in March 2014.
Cory Michael Smith
Of the many traditional villains in the Batman mythology whose story is told in this series, The Riddler is one of the most prominent figures as the series depicts the character’s journey to villainy. The Riddler or Edward Nygma is played by Cory Michael Smith. He joined the series in April 2014 and, after watching his performance as Edward, was quickly promoted to series rank in May 2014.
Donald Logue
The Vikings and Sons of Anarchy alumni play Harvey Bullock on the show. Harvey, which started out as a corrupt and brutal crime novel, is a journey from a bad person to a good person in a story of people going from good to bad. Donal Logue’s artistic portrayal of the character was well received and he served as a main character in the show.
