The suspects killed in a police battle in Saanich, British Columbia, earlier this week during an attempted armed bank robbery have been identified as twin brothers from Vancouver Island.
On Saturday morning, the RCMP released the names of the two suspects, Mathew and Isaac Auchterlonie of Duncan. Police claim that the suspects’ family is assisting with the investigation.
Who Are Mathew and Isaac Auchterlonie? Twin Brothers Killed
In the Saanich gunfight on June 28, 2022, twin brothers Matthew and Isaac Auchterlonie, both 22 years old, were killed by police. In Saanich, British Columbia, Canada, a branch of the Bank of Montreal was allegedly targeted by two alleged bank robbers.
A firefight at the Bank late Tuesday morning resulted in six police officers being hurt. Police stated on Thursday that explosive devices discovered in a car connected to the accused had to be destroyed.
The brothers Auchterlonie hail from Duncan, a city located roughly 60 kilometers outside of Melbourne. The RCMP stated that the brothers had no criminal histories and were unknown to the authorities at the time.
Cpl. Alex Berube stated at a press conference on Saturday that “there are still many questions and investigative activities that need to be undertaken to thoroughly understand what happened and why.”
The reason behind the armed robbery and subsequent gunfight with the police is still unknown. The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) is in charge of the investigation.
The matter is also being investigated by the Independent Investigations Office, a watchdog that looks into all police actions that result in fatalities or significant property damage.
According to Berube, police visited with the suspects’ relatives, who were assisting with the investigation.
The people were “heavily armed,” according to the investigators, and they were also wearing body armor. The two’s method of obtaining the guns utilized is unknown.

What Happened To The Twin Brothers?
Police killed Matthew and Isaac Auchterlonie, who were wanted for the Saanich Bank Robbery. They had also injured six policemen, three of whom had to be hospitalized.
Tuesday’s attempted robbery and subsequent shooting led to the evacuation of nearby buildings and the issuing of a lengthy shelter-in-place recommendation.
There was initially speculation that there might be a third suspect, but police later said they had “not discovered any additional indication” of that.
Police said in a Wednesday update that they did not believe the public was in danger, but they could not completely rule out the possibility of a third suspect.
Mathew And Isaac Auchterlonie Family: Who Are Their Parents?
Information about Mattew and Isaac’s family is kept quiet by the police.
In addition, Mattew and Isaac’s parents kept a low profile following the incident involving their two boys. For a parent, witnessing their child’s destruction and involvement in a crime was terrible.
Police are looking into that possibility right now to see whether anyone else was involved or connected to it. Authorities had to order a long-term evacuation of the region on Tuesday after an alleged explosive device was found in a truck nearby.
Authorities claim that this has never happened in the little island community, so there is still a sense of amazement there.
