Kai Owens’s parents had to give her up under China’s one-child policy and now may soon be returning to her home country to compete in the Beijing Olympics.
Her last event was in France, and she tries to put in eight hours of training a day. She has much potentials and has been declared USA Rookie of the Year.
When she was just 14, she became the youngest contestant to win a NorAm tournament.
Brimming with nerves and excitement, she said, “To be able to represent the United States would just be such an honor. Being able to return to the country that I was born in is extra special and extra personal. It wouly just bring everything full circle for me to be able to compete for my passion in sports and return to China.”

Kai Owens biological parents abandoned her in a Chinese province’s town square. Taken to an orphanage, she was adopted by Amy and Jonathan Owens in 2004 at 16 months.
At 17 years old, she longs to return to her birthplace in China to compete in the Beijing Olympics. Reigning as the USA Rookie of the Year, the skier has four qualifying events before her debut in the Olympics.
