The goalkeeper appeared in 31 games for the club before being offered a scholarship with the Central Coast Mariners when he was 17 years old.
That year, he was working under Matthew Nash, who had previously worked under John Crawley, the current national team goalkeeping coach.
It was a huge year for him in terms of growing as a goalkeeper and learning everything he needed to know on and off the field to become a professional.
While Gauci made significant progress at the professional level, the Mariners decided not to renew his one-year contract, and the promising youngster was relegated to the NPL.
When James Delianov met an injury before Adelaide’s original rivalry match against Melbourne Victory this year, the young keeper received his first opportunity to play a professional match, representing the city in which he was born.
Surprisingly, playing in front of a crowd of Victory supporters did not faze Gauci, and he helped his team to a 3-1 victory.
