Hazel Stewart got accused of murdering her husband, Trevor, 32, and Lesley,31, the wife of her former lover Colin Howell.

She got sentenced to a minimum of 21 years of imprisonment when she got convicted in 2010. However, she testified that it was all planned by Colin: ” I may have been the lead partner in the waltz, but Hazel was dancing in cooperation.”

Howell and Stewart were not just lovers; while having the external impression of being God-fearing parents, they were also cruel killers.

To live together for the rest of their lives, the two planned to have their husbands killed while making it appear as though they had committed suicide. They almost got away with it, too.

Reportedly, mother-of-two Hazel Buchanan is still married to David Stewart. She changed her name to Hazel Stewart by using his last name.

By 1996, Colin had become weary of the role of the depressed widower and recommended to Hazel that they relocate to Scotland and start afresh.

They might enlist in a church and coexist as a blended family publicly. Hazel, though, commanded them to go. 

Hazel broke up with Colin because she no longer desired his presence in her life. Later, she wed David Stewart, a senior police officer with extensive knowledge as a criminal investigator.

Where Is Hazel Stewart Now?

Hazel Stewart’s jail privileges got revoked, and she was put back on a basic schedule. She is now incarcerated in Hydebank, Belfast.

Before her interview with the Belfast Telegraph in mid-2021, she was seen as a role model for prisoners.

According to Stewart’s statement, her isolation resulted from being unable to talk to anyone about the murders.

She failed in the past attempts to have her sentence overturned or reduced. The court denied her request in 2015 to revive her lost 2013 appeal about the killing of her husband.
