Where Was Somewhere Boy Filmed?

The drama Somewhere Boy was entirely shot in South Wales. The beautiful scenery seen in the drama was filmed mainly in Cardiff and the Welsh hills of the Brecon Beacons.

Likewise, some scenes from Danny’s past in the house where he was isolated give the vibes of the 90s.

According to National world, the first block director, Alex Winckler, and the Director of Photography, Ed Moore, used 1970s lenses to shoot in the house. Thus, it looked grainier and warmer, which then provided a contrast to the slightly harsher world outside.

Somewhere Boy features a story of an 18 years old boy Danny who spent most of his life indoors. His mother passed away in a car crash when he was a child.

As a result, his father, Steve, keeps him inside the home to keep him safe and tells him that there are monsters outside and they will harm him just like they did to his mother. They live together, keeping themselves isolated from the outside world.

The two watched movies with happy endings and listened to old albums. However, one day, Danny’s small world comes crashing down when he is forced to deal with the outside world- one that he may have never imagined.

He learned that his entire existence has been deception and that his father invented the monsters to protect him out of the fear that the same thing that happened to his wife may also occur to his child.

The drama ends with eight episodes, and some viewers are curious about the filming locations. The 90s vibes the series gave when Danny reminisced about the past, and his journey of adjusting to life in a new world all made the audience wonder about the places where the drama was shot.

The Drama May Continue For Season 2

The first season will end with eight episodes. But some fans wonder if there will be a second season. And, it seems that there are chances that the audience can expect the second season too.

Writer Jackson said that Danny’s journey is only the beginning, writes Wales Online. He added that Danny is still a boy who is still at odds with the world and has yet to find a place in it for him. Thus, the production team has many ideas for him.

Likewise, some actors like Lisa McGrillis and Samuel Bottomley expressed their interest in playing their respective characters once again.

Somewhere Boy Soundtrack

The drama Somewhere Boy has a fascinating soundtrack. Danny, who grew up listening to old albums of his father, has never encountered modern music.

It is seen how Danny and Aaron’s worlds are dissimilar from one another, portrayed through the music. Paul Haslinger, the composer, understood this, and the soundtrack used throughout the season has pleased the viewers.

A Soundtrack Inspired Pete Jackson To Write The Story

The writer of Somewhere Boy, Pete Jackson, shared that when he was a young boy, he used to sit and listen to his father’s record on his old record player with him. He grew up listening to it and says it was such a happy and safe time.

And, recently, when he found the same record player from his father’s garage, he sat with his young son and listened to it in the same record player while trying to create a safe little world for his child.

It made him think of how fleeting those moments are; what if he never had to send his beloved child back to the horrifying and complex world?

Music Inspires The Writing

When asked about the biggest creative influence on Pete, he said that it was music. He shared that when creating the tone of a show and when writing, he tries to get together a playlist and create a tone.

The writer mentioned a few songs that he listened to for Somewhere Boy. He listened to the Scandinavian soundscape and mostly listed Daniel Norgren, who created the album Alabursy. He added that he does not listen to music when writing but listens to the playlist to get in the mood.
