Stephanie Rose McGovern HonFREng is an English journalist and television presenter. She currently hosts Steph’s Packed Lunch on Channel 4. She worked for the BBC as the main business presenter for BBC Breakfast, often co-hosting the entire programme.
McGovern left BBC Breakfast in October 2019 to join Channel 4. She had been expected to host Steph’s Talks from spring 2020 at Channel 4’s then-new base in Leeds, however, the COVID-19 pandemic meant that she began presenting The Steph Show from her front room on 30 March 2020. The show eventually launched in September 2020 as Steph’s Packed Lunch.
In 2021, she was elected as an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and recognised as a “tireless champion for engineering and vocational skills”.
McGovern hosts industrial events. In December 2021, McGovern was featured in the BBC Four series Walking with…, walking in Littondale in the Yorkshire Dales.

Based in Leeds, Steph’s Packed Lunch has also built a strong training ground for production and editorial talent in the region, with staff who joined the team as runners, researchers and assistant producers achieving promotions to more senior roles.
She began hosting The Steph Show on Channel 4 in 2020 – because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was broadcast from Steph’s own house and was later taken off air. The show returned in September 2020 with the new name Steph’s Packed Lunch and was filmed in Leeds.
Has Steph’s Packed Lunch Been Axed?
Channel 4’s BAFTA Award-nominated daytime series Steph’s Packed Lunch has been recommissioned, with Expectation and Can Can Productions continuing to make the weekday lunchtime show throughout 2022 and 2023.
This recommission sees Steph McGovern continue to host the 100-minute daily format live from Leeds Dock every Monday to Friday, bringing viewers a daily dose of entertainment, lifestyle and topical news with celebrity guests, fantastic food and captivating real-life stories.
Does Anyone Watch Steph’s Packed Lunch?
Steph’s Packed Lunch is currently seeing its best-ever viewing share, averaging a 3.4% share in 2022, up +9% in the same period in 2021. The show is nominated in the Daytime category at this weekend’s BAFTA Television Awards and it is also nominated for Best Daytime Programme at the TRIC Awards 2022.
Earlier this year, host Steph McGovern was nominated for Best Presenter at the RTS Programme Awards and Steph’s Packed Lunch was shortlisted for Best Daytime Programme at the Broadcast Awards 2022.
