Ron Lafferty was the oldest of eight children born to Watson Leroy Lafferty and Claudine Jones, who lived in Utah.

Doctors at the Utah State Hospital determined that he was fit to stand trial as per his bio. In 1985, he was convicted, found guilty, and condemned to death.

After a review by the Utah Supreme Court, the penalty was confirmed, and a second appeal to the United States Supreme Court was denied.
