Roe v Wade Ruling Overturned By Supreme Court

Roe v. Wade, a historic judgment that established the constitutional right to an abortion, was overruled by the Supreme Court in a 5-4 vote.

Since 1973, Roe has allowed for abortions to be performed during the first two trimesters of pregnancy in the US.  According to cnbc.com, as a result of the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Mississippi case known as Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, about half of the states are anticipated to abolish or severely restrict abortion.

The court’s contentious but anticipated decision allows individual states to determine their abortion regulations without worrying about violating Roe.

Due to the Supreme Court’s ruling, which is connected to a new Mississippi abortion law with extremely stringent requirements, nearly half of the states are anticipated to abolish or severely restrict abortion.

A Texas law that outlaws abortion after six weeks was upheld amid a dispute, prompting many to worry that the Conservative-controlled Supreme Court would invalidate Roe v. Wade.

McCorvey, an activist got pregnant third time in 1970 without legal marriage in Texas where abortion was illegal. She didn’t want the child to keep so she filed a case against Supreme Court which later made abortion a federally protected right. By the time, Shelley was already born and was living with an adoptive family.

She filed a lawsuit in March 1970 against Dallas County District Attorney Henry Wade, claiming that the state’s abortion ban violated her desire to end her pregnancy.

Norma triumphed in court. She did not, however, get the abortion. She had already given birth and given her kid up for adoption by the time the Supreme Court issued its ruling on January 22, 1973.
