Where Is Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe Now?
Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian aid worker, has lost her appeal against a second prison sentence in Iran.
On Saturday, her family stated that no court hearing had occurred, but Nazanin’s lawyer had been informed of the outcome.
Nazanin was sentenced to five years in imprisonment in 2016; after being accused of plotting against the regime, Ratcliffe was sentenced to another year in April on charges of spreading propaganda.
She served the last year of her sentence on parole at her parents’ house in Tehran.
But there are fears that Mrs. Zaghari-Ratcliffe will again be returned to prison.
Over the five and a half years since Nazanin Zaghari-arrest, Ratcliffe’s, it has become increasingly clear that she is a chess piece in a geopolitical game and that Iran’s legal moves against her are motivated by political considerations.
Richard Ratcliffe sees her appeal’s failure without even a court hearing as a judicial ruse for continuing to hold her hostage.
The UK government has been repeatedly chastised for failing to take action to return Nazanin to her family.
And he is afraid that unless the debt is paid, she will never come home.

Nazanin Zaghari’s husband, Ratcliffe’s detained in Iran since 2016, is on a hunger strike outside the Foreign Office in London.
Richard Ratcliffe is putting pressure on Prime Minister Theresa May to meet with an Iranian delegate at COP26 – and pay the debt he believes will result in releasing his wife and other British detainees. Nearly four million people have signed his petition to free Nazanin.
After reviewing her medical records, experts concluded that Nazanin’s mistreatment in Iran during her arbitrary detention amounted to torture.
Her husband, Richard Ratcliffe, stated that his wife was awaiting the summons and was traumatized at the prospect of returning to jail.
