She was an unlicensed financial advisor in Australia who vanished while under investigation by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) for allegedly conducting a Ponzi scheme.
She reportedly stole $30 million from her clients, especially her family and friends, during an eight-year period, from October 2012 to 2019. She allegedly placed the money in 37 bank accounts.
Her crimes became more serious each year, according to the Federal Court of Australia. She allegedly prepared fraudulent CommSec portfolio statements and bogus account numbers when her customers invested money to show them what return they had received, leading them to assume they had invested in shares.
When her scam was found out by authorities, they raided her home. And, after the raid, she disappeared and has not been found yet.
Is Melissa Caddick Dead Or Alive?
People wonder if Melissa Caddick is dead or alive. According to The Guardian, police found her remains on the NSW south coast months on February 2021.
A part of her remains was discovered on a remote beach on the state’s south coast, according to NSW police assistant commissioner Michael Willing.
The campers found a shoe and “decomposed” foot on a remote beach. Police claimed that the shoe matched the one she was wearing when Asic was searching her house on the day of her disappearance.
The DNA test proved that it was her foot. However, the body was never found, and many think that she may be in hiding somewhere as her body is not found yet.
Associate Professor of Criminology Dr. Xanthé Mallett said that just because you do not have a foot does not mean that you are dead. A person can survive without a foot as well.
