Jason Isbell first wife Shonna Tucker is a bassist in Drive By Truckers. Jason and Shonna were married for seven years between 2002 and 2007.

Jason is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He is best known as a former member of the American rock band Drive-By Truckers. Jason left the band in 2007 to pursue his solo career.

Speaking about the breakup from the band Shepherd Express, Jason said the difference in types of music they wanted to follow led to his disembarkment from the band. Jason released three full-length studio albums in his solo career but later started making music with his band The 400 Unit. 

Jason and The 400 Unit band first collaborated to release their eponymous album on February 17, 2009. Since then, the music group has released five full-length studio albums, and their 6th studio album titled “Weathervanes” will release on June 9, 2023. 

The singer’s solo album, Something More Than Free, released on July 17, 2015, ranked number 6 on US Charts and number 1 on US Country Charts. The album sold a total of 143,000 copies until July 12, 2016, according to Rough Stock.

Shonna Tucker Is A Fellow Basist

Jason Isbell ex wife Shonna Tucker is a fellow bassist and songwriter. Jason and Shonna played together for Driveby Trucker.

Shonna was born on February 27, 1978, in Killen, Alabama, United States of America. The 45-year-old started playing Bass at the age of 12 after receiving her first Bass as a gift from her father. Unfortunately, her parents’ names have not come to the surface yet.

She joined the American rock band Drive-By Truckers in 2003 and played with the band until 2011. Her departure from the band was announced on the band’s Facebook page by Patterson Hood in December 2011.

Since departing from Drive-By Truckers, Tucker joined John Neff and Bo Bedingfield to form a new band named Shonna Tucker and Eye Candy. The band released its first album A Tell All in October 2013.

Shonna also released an extended play Dreams of Mine in 2019 with fellow artist Spooner Oldham. 

Apart from her musical career, Shonna is also an enthusiastic cook and has released a series of cooking videos on the Cowboy Camera Youtube channel. The three-part series was released between January 2010 and April 2010.

Jason And Shonna Married In 2002

Jason and Shonna married in 2002 when both of them were playing for Drive-By Trucker. Jason and Shonna ended their marriage five years later in 2007.

Shonna and Jason married a year before the former joined the rock band Drive-By Trucker. According to Rolling Stone, the pair’s marriage and Tucker joining the band did not help and cut their honeymoon short.

Their marriage was followed by numerous infidelities and extramarital affairs from Jason’s side, reports Rolling Stone. Jason also revealed that he regretted marrying Shonna as she did not deserve any of the ugly things that followed their wedding.

The pair were separated while still playing for the same band making things much more complicated within the band. Jason’s temper problems made a very toxic environment in the band prompting the band to fire him in 2007 which subsequently followed his divorce from Tucker.

Shonna and Jason have moved on keeping their past behind. According to a tweet from the bassist on her Twitter account, she has had four relationships in total, including her marriage, and has gone on two dates so far.

Jason Isbell wife Amanda is a violinist, singer, songwriter, and creative writer. Amanda also acts as the lyrics editor for Jason. 

Jason Welcomed His Only Child In 2015

Jason Isbell daughter Mercy Rose was born on 7 September 2015. Jason welcomed his only child with his wife Amanda Shires.

Amanda announced the birth of their child through her Twitter account, sharing an image of the newborn daughter Mercy, she wrote, “So happy and grateful to have Mercy Rose Isbell in the world.”

Mercy is following in her parent’s footsteps and has already started to sing to huge crowds. Amanda shared an Instagram post revealing that Mercy sang at the ShoalsFest in October 2022 along with her father Jason and his band members. Jason and Shannon did not share any children during their five years marriage. 

Jason was born to his parents Mike Isbell and Angela Hill Barnett. He also has a half-brother named Chantry Barnett in his family. Mike and Angela were just 19 and 17 years old, respectively when he was born and his parents divorced shortly after his birth.
