Annabelle is supposedly a haunted doll, popularized by the horror movie of the same name. It is one of the many Raggedy Ann dolls produced in the mid-20th-century.
The doll has a series of horror movies in her name; they are Annabelle (2014), Annabelle: Creation (2017), and Annabelle Comes Home (2019).
The doll now rests in now closed The Warren’s Occult Museum in Connecticut. The museum is owned by famous paranormal investigators, the Warren couple (Ed and Lorraine Warren)
Story of Annabelle
As the story goes, the horror of Annabelle began in 1970. The story states that the doll was a gift to a young nurse Donna or Dierdre (depending upon which source you follow) by her mother on the occasion of her 28th birthday. As she brought the doll into her apartment, strange things started to happen. One of such things was that the doll seemed to move around the room on her own.
Later, notes started to be found around the apartment. The note was asking for help. Further, the notes were on a parchment paper, which was not kept by Donna and her roommate Angie. Things got worse when Angie’s boyfriend Lou was haunted by the doll. He had marks of the bloody claws on his chest whilst being in their apartment. Bizarrely enough, the signs of claws vanished after two days, without leaving any trace.
After that, they got scared and invited a paranormal investigator. The investigator told that the doll is inhabited by the spirit of a seven-year-old girl named Annabelle Higgins. Years ago, Higgins’ body was found on the same site as the building Donna and Angie were living in.
The investigator also said that the spirit doll is kind and is seeking love. This made them feel bad for the doll. However, the haunting continued. Donna and Angie attempted to get rid of the spirit in the doll from their house, and they called upon a priest called Father Hegan. Later Father Hegan called for Father Cooke. Then father Cooke immediately sought help from the famous paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren.
After their investigation, Warrens reached the conclusion that unhuman energy is attached to the doll. However, they stated that the energy was not the spirit of a young girl but it was of a demonic spirit. They further added that the demonic spirit was not seeking to possess the toy but one of the people in the apartment.
Where is the Doll Now?
The Warrens requested Father Cooke to try an exorcism and later took it with them at the request of the girls. However, the horrors of Annabelle didn’t end there as the Warren couple started to feel several paranormal activities not long after they took the doll. At Warrens’ house, they also observed paranormal activities like the doll levitating and moving about the house.
Finally, they decided to lock Annabelle in a specially-made glass and wooden box. After putting the doll in the box they used binding prayer in order to fix the doll there. It is believed that throughout his life, Ed would periodically utter a binding prayer to the box so as to make sure that the spirit will not escape.
The doll now rests in the same glass and a wooden box at the Warren’s Occult Museum in Connecticut. The museum is closed by now. Though the doll Annabelle is real, the movie adaptations are not totally real at all.
