Where is Andrew Marr Going?

On Friday, the presenter announced his impending retirement on Twitter, citing a desire to reclaim his “own voice” away from the BBC.

Immediately following the announcement, speculation began as to who might succeed the veteran journalist.

Andrew, 62, told his Twitter followers that he believes British politics is set to enter “an even more volatile decade” and that he will be joining Global next year to “create and deliver political and cultural shows.”

“I’ve been doing the Andrew Marr show every Sunday morning for 16 years now, and that’s probably enough,” he continued.

According to a statement made by broadcaster Global, Marr will host brand-new shows on LBC and Classic FM next year, including an opinion-driven show on LBC “where he will deliver his take on the most pressing news of the day.”

Who Will Replace Andrew Marr?

For many years, Andrew’s weekly morning show on BBC One has been one of the state broadcaster’s hallmark political programs, seen as essential watching for those interested in the Westminster bubble.

His departure opens the door for another significant name to land one of the top posts in political journalism. Below are some of the possible words that can replace him.

Emily Maitlis

The Newsnight host has received praise for her high-profile interviews with the Duke of York, Donald Trump, and Bill Clinton and would be a formidable opponent in a debate with political leaders.

Mishal Husain

Husain is a prominent figure and is respected for her forensic and persistent yet patient interviewing approach.

Mishal is one of the presenters of BBC Radio 4’s flagship news program, Today.

She has also worked for the BBC for many years, reporting and presenting news, and is responsible for some of the broadcaster’s most memorable interviews with foreign leaders.

Zeinab Badawi

Marr’s show had previously been presented by the presenter of BBC Global Questions and Hardtalk so that she would be a recognizable face to his regular audience.

Laura Kuenssberg

One of the frontrunners for the job is likely to be the BBC’s political editor.

Kuenssberg was earlier rumoured to be in talks to leave her post of six years and join the Today program as part of a significant rearrangement of the BBC’s on-air crew.
