Yanez was introduced to boxing by his father who was a Golden Gloves champion at a tender age. But later switched to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Yanez began training in mixed martial arts at the age of 15 and had his first fight at 17. He went on to have a successful amateur career with six wins, including four consecutive TKOs.
Yanez made his professional debut against Richard Delfin on March 14, 2014.
He subsequently made his debut in the UFC against Victor Rodriguez on October 31, 2020.
