Santana spent five years in prison, but the others served different amounts, ranging from 5 to 12 years, according to the Innocence Project. They did not all serve five years.

In 1989, five men were wrongfully convicted of raping and beating a woman in Central Park and they weren’t released until 2002, when the real criminal confessed to the crime. That man was convicted murderer and rapist Matias Reyes.

In July 2019, Wise purchased a condominium overlooking Central Park. He is the only one of the five who chose to continue to reside in New York City after his release. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Wise helped provide sustenance to senior residents in Harlem.

Five black and Hispanic boys, aged between 14 and 16, would be found guilty and jailed for the crime. They became known as the Central Park Five. But they never committed the crime.
