Hope Amelia Solo was born on July 30, 1981, in Richland, Washington, the United States to parents Jeffrey Solo and Judy Lynn Shaw. She was raised alongside her siblings Teresa Obert and Marcus Solo.

Hope Solo’s father Jeffrey was an Italian-American Vietnam War veteran. She attended the University of Washington from 1999 to 2002 where she majored in speech communications and was a college football star. She later played professionally for the Philadelphia Charge in the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA).

Hope Solo was a goalkeeper for the United States women’s national soccer team from 2000 to 2016 and is a World Cup champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist.
