Ethan Coen wrote the words for the song “I Do,” which Debbie Gibson contributed to the “The Naked Man” album in 1998. However, the soundtrack was never formally released. After quitting EMI, Gibson established her own record company, Espiritu, so she could release her own works.
Her sixth album, “Deborah,” which was released in 1997, marked her return to popular music. The album’s lead single, “Only Words,” reached its high on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart at position forty. The ballad “Naturally” was the album’s second hit.
Gibson’s seventh studio album, “M.Y.O.B.,” was released in 2001 by Golden Egg, her new record label.
The sensual pop ballad “What You Want,” the dance-pop song with Latin overtones “Your Secret,” and the bass-heavy “M.Y.O.B.” are three of the album’s singles that were released.
A few notable tracks on the album were “In Blue,” a gorgeous jazz tune with a Latin influence, “Wishing You Were Here,” a retro-style ballad, and a remix of “M.Y.O.B.” with backing vocals from her nieces.
In 2005, Gibson and the O’Neill Brothers collaborated to develop and record the song “Someone You Love.” They also provided an acoustic version of her top-charting song, “Lost in Your Eyes.”
Additionally, a PBS program with Gibson garnered an Emmy nomination. The same year that her single “Naked,” which peaked at number 35 on Billboard, was released, Gibson stripped off for Playboy magazine.
