Julia Mary Walters, also referred to as Julie Walters, was born on February 22, 1950, at St. Chad’s Hospital in Edgbaston, Birmingham, England. She was the offspring of Thomas Walters and Mary Bridget Walters. Mary, an Irish Catholic postal clerk from County Mayo, came from a different background than Thomas, an English builder and decorator.
The genealogy show “Who Do You Think You Are?” from the BBC asserts that Julia’s maternal ancestors actively took part in the Irish Land War in the eighteenth century.
In June 1915, her grandfather Thomas Walters sadly lost his life in World War I while serving with the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and fighting in the Second Boer War.
He is honoured in France at the Le Touret Memorial. The Walters family resided at 69 Bishopton Road in Smethwick’s Bearwood district.
