By the end of 1969, academic institutions were scrambling to connect to ARPANET. The University of California–Santa Barbara and the University of Utah linked up that year. By April 1971, there were 15 nodes and 23 host terminals in the network.
What were the 4 nodes that made up the ARPANET in December 1969?
By December 1969, ARPANET contained four nodes, at Stanford, UCLA, the University of Utah, and the University of California, Santa Barbara.
What universities were part of ARPANET when it was first started?
An ARPANET network was established between Harvard, MIT, and BBN, the company that created the “interface message processor” computers used to connect to the network.
What are the cities in ARPANET?

ARPANET adopted TCP/IP on January 1, 1983, and from there researchers began to assemble the “network of networks” that became the modern Internet. The online world then took on a more recognizable form in 1990, when computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web.
What came before DSL?
ISDN was very popular in Europe, but less common in North America. Its use peaked in the late 1990s before the availability of DSL and cable modem technologies. Basic rate ISDN, known as ISDN-BRI, has two 64 kbit/s “bearer” or “B” channels.

Are there other internets?
At the highest level there are three distinct Internets today – the Internet of people, the Internet of servers and the Internet of things. … Each of these three Internets coincide with each other only in the most basic levels of sharing the same system of IP addresses and similar web protocols.
Who invented Internet?
Bob Kahn
Vint Cerf
Internet/Inventors
Computer scientists Vinton Cerf and Bob Kahn are credited with inventing the Internet communication protocols we use today and the system referred to as the Internet.
Who owns World Wide Web?
Sir Tim Berners-Lee
Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1989. He is the co-founder and CTO of Inrupt.com, a tech start-up which uses, promotes and helps develop the open source Solid platform. Solid aims to give people control and agency over their data, questioning many assumptions about how the web has to work.
Where is the internet physically located?
Today, the internet is basically housed in the data centers located in the Washington-area suburb, which is the biggest data center market in the world. “The internet itself is really comprised of these peering points that are housed inside data centers.

The biggest internet companies have data centers around the world, but a disproportionate share of their data centers are located in the United States. And American data centers are clustered in a few states, notably Oregon, Iowa, and the Carolinas.
Can the Internet shut down?
Disabling the entire internet would be like trying to stop the flow of every river in the world at once. No. … There isn’t a single connection point that all the data flows through, and the internet protocol was specifically designed so that data finds a route around parts of the network that are down.
Is the Internet under the ocean?
Have you ever wondered how internet traffic flies around the world? 99% of it travels through fiber optics cables under the sea. That’s your internet telephone conversation, your instant messages, your email and your website visits, all making their way beneath the world’s oceans.
Can internet be destroyed?
“I think a massive attack to bring down the whole internet is actually possible,” he says. He points out that physical attacks on the internet’s infrastructure are unlikely to do much permanent damage. Destroying one node in a 1,000 node network won’t take the whole network down, of course.
