What Was Judith Durham’s Net Worth At Death? The Australian Singer Died A Wealthy Woman

Judith Durham, or Judith Mavis Cock, was an Australian singer, songwriter, and musician famous for her work in the folk and jazz genre.

Durham began her career as a singer for the contemporary folk band The Seekers in 1962 alongside Athol Guy, Bruce Woodley, and Keith Potger.

She would go on to release eight albums with the band from 1963 to 1967 to great acclaim.

Though the band was formed in Australia, within two years of their formation, they were booked to play in the United Kingdom for ten weeks, but their success led to them playing longer than that. Their single, The Carnival is Over, is among the top 150 best-selling singles in UK history.

Durham made more history with The Seekers again on March 12, 1967, when the group set an official Australian record when more than 200,000 people in Sydney, one-tenth of the city’s population and the time, attended their Sydney Myer Music Bowl performance.

They also had a TV Special, The Seekers Down Under, which scored the biggest TV audience ever. The group was awarded Australia’s top honor, Australians of the Year 1967, for their achievements.

Durham would begin her acclaimed solo career a year later, where she sang and acted for the rest of her life before eventually rejoining The Seekers in 1992.

How Much Is Judith Durham’s Net Worth? What Was The Folk Singer Worth in 2022?

Judith Durham possessed a net worth of $2.5 million at the time of her passing in 2022.

As a successful folk singer and occasional actor, Durham has more than earned her net worth throughout her decade-long career. Her time in The Seekers might have introduced her to show business and brought her her early acclaim, but it’s important not to discount just how successful her solo career was.

Durham announced her departure from The Seekers while on tour in New Zealand in 1968. Her first solo debut was right after she returned from the tour in August 1968 in Durham’s first solo television special, An Evening with Judith Durham.

Following the special, she released the album, For Christmas With Love, which she toured all over Australia and New Zealand, as would be the pattern for the rest of her career. Her most famous album, Gift of Song, would be released two years later in 1970.

Gift of Song is remembered fondly despite its unsuccessful attempt to break Judith Durham into the American market. Still, Durham is remembered in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.

Durham’s most famous acting role was as Sarah Simmonds in an episode titled “The Golden Girl” in the Australian television series Cash and Co. in 1975. The episode also featured Durham’s husband, Ron Edgeworth, on piano.

Who Is Judith Durham’s Husband? The Folk Singer’s Married Life

A couple of years after she left The Seekers, Judith Durham married her musical director, British pianist Ron Edgeworth on November 21, 1969.

The couple married at Scots’ Church in Melbourne. Durham met Edgeworth when his group, The Trebletones, were on tour with The Seekers and eventually became her musical director.

Although whether or not the two had been dating while Durham was in The Seekers has not been verified, the media had seen them together frequently following Durham’s departure from The Seekers. Edgeworth was a great help to the singer during her solo career.

The couple chose not to have children for reasons they never disclosed to the public. The two were also vegetarian for much of their life, and Durham chose to commit fully and became a vegan after 2015.

Durham and Edgeworth lived in the UK and Switzerland until the mid-1980s, when they bought a property in Nambour, Queensland, and moved there. In 1990, Durham, Edgeworth, and their tour manager, Peter Summers, were in a terrible car accident on the Calder Freeway.

The driver died at the scene, while Durham suffered from a fractured wrist and leg. Her fan’s heartwarming show of support made her consider getting back together with The Seekers for a Silver Jubilee show.

Sadly, Edgeworth would be diagnosed with motor neuron disease during the reunion show and die a couple of years later, on December 10, 1994, with Durham by his side.

How Did Judith Durham Die? Cause Of Death

Judith Durham died from bronchiectasis at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne on August 5, 2022, at 79.

Durham was born with asthma and caught measles at the age of four. This childhood affliction left her with the life-long chronic lung disease that ailed her for much of her life called bronchiectasis.

However, she had been having other health problems before succumbing to bronchiectasis. In May 2013, she suffered a stroke during The Seekers’ Golden Jubilee tour that left her unable to read and write. Luckily she rebuilt those skills.

To honor her memory, the state of Victoria will give Durham a state funeral.
