Sherri Papini has been taken to custody after faking her kidnapping. She has been charged with making false statements and mail fraud.
According to prosecutors, she not only misled investigators but also damaged the resources of law enforcement officers.
It has been reported that Papini took over $30,000 of payments from the California Victim’s Compensation Board.
Further, the young mother also made racial remarks stating that her kidnappers were “Hispanic women”.
The FBI had created a sketch based on her story, and the abductors were ruthlessly searched in accordance with the description.
However, it was proved that she had voluntarily stayed with her former boyfriend in Costa Mesa.
After the investigation into Papini’s kidnapping story, the prosecution has said that the woman had invented a hoax.

She went missing on Nov 2, 2016. After nearly a month she was nowhere to be found but on Nov 24, she reappeared.
Upon her return, Papini was covered in bruises and body restraints. She had covered-up injuries including branding on her right shoulder.
Also, for several years Papini had framed the police. She was caught after the police investigation yielded nothing.
She was suspected after the male DNA on her body was proven to be of her former boyfriend.
The ex-boyfriend reportedly stated that he helped her with branding. Further revealed that Papini asked him to help from her abusive husband.
The fraud woman was 34 years old at the time of her arrest. As of 2022, she is in her forties, probably of age 44 years old.

Sherri Papini has been married to her husband named Keith Papini. It is not known whether her husband was involved in the fraud or not.
According to The Sun, the couple got married in the year 2009 and are still together.
