What to do on memorial day weekend

While it’s certainly not “wrong” to wish someone a “Happy Memorial Day,” and it’s safe to assume most people are well-intentioned, it seems as though taking a few minutes to say the right thing will mean that much more. After all, the day is about more than backyard parties and barbecues.

Memorial Day and Veterans Day are both patriotic holidays honoring the military, but there is a significant difference between the two aside from when they land on the calendar. … Any day is a good day to support Veterans either through a charity or giving a heartfelt “thank you” to those who served.

While some consider pairing the word happy with Memorial Day to be inappropriate, others see it as a perfectly acceptable greeting. Despite joy being at the root of the word happy, Thesaurus.com noted that using the word happy could also be a way for a person to express gratitude.

Thank a Veteran

While many show their gratitude to veterans by saying “Thank you for your service,” as a veteran, Bruce Katz said it may be more appropriate to say “Thank you for choosing to serve.”

A.N. Answer: Both days are observances to honor those who have served in the military. Memorial Day, which is in May, particularly honors those who were killed during their service. Veterans Day honors all those who have served.

As opposed to Memorial Day, Veterans Day isn’t a solemn occasion. Because of this, saying “Happy Veterans Day” to a veteran can be used in the same way a greeting like “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Thanksgiving” is used.

To all veterans of all branches: Thank you for your sacrifice, your bravery, and the example you set for us all. In short, thank you for your service! To all those who have served, and those who continue to serve… Happy Veterans Day!

Thank you for your sacrifices, for your valor, for the things you carry, for protecting us, and for defending our rights. Thank you to all our veterans for your courage, strength and dedication to keeping us safe. Growing up in a military family, I know the sacrifice that countless men and women have made.

Wear red, white and blue.

The simple gesture of wearing patriotic colors can pay tribute. It’ll also create conversation among peers and give you an opportunity to remind everyone that it’s Veterans Day.

“The service from your loved one will never be forgotten from the continued memories by you and your family. Keep him in your heart and always cherish the service he provided for all of us to live comfortably and enjoy our beautiful country. Please accept my sincere condolences.”

April marks the nation’s Month of the Military Child. … Purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military, because it is the combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red, and Navy blue.

About Purple Up!

Veterans Day is intended to honor and thank all military personnel who served the United States in all wars, particularly living veterans. It is marked by parades and church services and in many places the American flag is hung at half mast. A period of silence lasting two minutes may be held at 11am.

John F.

President John F.Kennedy is the only U.S. president with a Purple Heart. Kennedy, who served in the Navy during World War II, injured his back when a Japanese destroyer collided with his patrol torpedo boat near the Solomon Islands.

The Purple Heart has never been awarded for mental or psychological problems. In a May article in Stars and Stripes a military psychologist argued for a change in the policy. He said that PTSD is in part a physical disorder because it damages the brain.

A private organization called the Military Order of the Purple Heart offers scholarships to 80 Purple Heart recipients and family members each year. It is offered to qualifying members of the order, and can be used to pay for expenses directly related to higher education.
