Sherri Papini is a woman from California whose disappearance and what happened to Sherri Papini made headlines all over the nation and caused a massive search until she returned on Thanksgiving in 2016. Later, Sherri Papini pleaded guilty to faking her own abduction and falsifying the details to the FBI and other authorities.

For years, there had been doubts regarding the circumstances of Papini’s disappearance, as well as there were allegations that Sherri had originally declined to answer official inquiries. She decided to admit guilt in an agreement with prosecutors. 

After more than a month, the FBI revealed that she had faked the kidnapping and spent the 22 days at the residence of her ex-boyfriend in southern California. Authorities reached the conclusion that she either caused the injuries to herself or had either her ex-boyfriend do that for her.

What Happened to Sherri Papini?

Sherri Papini, a lady from Northern California was convicted of staging her own kidnapping in the year 2016. Sherri asked her husband Keith whether he would be back home for lunch, and hours earlier she disappeared in 2016. Keith stated that he will not be present. 

Sherri was reported missing on November 2 after failing to pick up their children from a childcare center. In 2016, Keith told ABC News: “Everyone who knows my wife knows that there’s no reason for her to leave. She was definitely taken against her will.”

Keith spotted her smartphone and earphone while searching for his missing wife. Sherri later reappeared on Thanksgiving of 2016.

Keith Papini is the husband of Sherri Papini. They were apparently married in 2009, and they are still together. However, this has yet to be confirmed. He even spoke in favor of his wife Sherri, after she returned from what appeared to be a frightening absence in 2016. 

Keith was interrogated by the FBI as the suspect for the sudden disappearance of his wife. But after passing a lie detector exam, FBI agents did not indicate him as a prime suspect. He was worried about his wife and was almost sure that she was kidnapped by someone or something terrible might have happened to her. 

Are Keith and Sherri still married?

Keith Papini had filed for divorce from Sherri on April 22, 2022, according to a source. Keith has already submitted the paperwork on April 20. They have two very young children of age 10 & 8. Keith is now ready to dump Sherry after she has admitted to faking the kidnapping by herself. On Wednesday, he filed documents for divorce in Shasta County, California.

Papini stated that the faked kidnapping, as well as the negative media coverage surrounding it, is why he wishes to break the relationship and gain primary custody of his children with his supervised visits. Sherri made the statement just days after pleading guilty to one count of mail fraud & one count of misleading a federal agent. Their divorce hearing is planned for May 9.
