Kratos is a fictional character and the protagonist of Santa Monica Studio’s God of War series, based on Greek mythology and, later, Norse mythology.
He first appeared in the 2005 video game God of War, which led to the development of eight additional titles featuring the character as the protagonist.
Kratos also appears as the protagonist of the 2010 and 2018 comic series, as well as three novels that retell the events of three of the games.
The character was voiced by Terrence C. Carson from 2005 to 2013, with Christopher Judge taking over the role in 2018’s continuation, also titled God of War.
Throughout the Greek era of the series, Kratos is portrayed as a Spartan warrior, who becomes known as the “Ghost of Sparta” after accidentally killing his family due to the trickery of his former mentor Ares, the God of War.
What makes Kratos so strong?
Kratos was the most powerful and terrifying character because he had access to Athena’s divine abilities after the murder of his brother, the abilities of the God of War who belonged to Ares, the powers of Pandora’s Box, and a ton of other gods’ weapons and spells.
Being the closest deity to Kratos and the only one who he would probably not want to injure, Zeus was the only one to intervene, but not before attempting to persuade Athena to do so.
It’s noteworthy to note that Kratos is implied to be the god of war in the first God of War game’s ending, which features images of battles from the American Civil War, the Crusades, and contemporary conflicts.
However, as the sequel makes clear, Zeus ended Kratos’ reign. Given the implication that Kratos survived his apparent suicide at the end of God of War 3, this may have been because the developers were unsure whether they would make a sequel of that kind (of which the sequel was clear, but the plot of which sequel was not the clear matter), or it may have been future images of what might have been, or it very well may have been true.
