Mathison, the second son of Bill and Loretta Mathison, was born on August 25, 1969, in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. He went to Thornlea Secondary School in Thornhill, Ontario, and then to McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1993.
