In this generation, it is possible to find different types of keyboards of all sizes and shapes. Today’s keyboards have undergone numerous technological advancements. They now offer a variety of features which are beneficial for both home and office. They also help to enhance the internet browsing experience by providing finger comfort and speed. They are a lot of classifications to differentiate between keyboards but one major classification is wired and wireless.
Wired Keyboard vs Wireless Keyboard
The main difference between a wired keyboard and a wireless keyboard is that a wired keyboard has a wire that is plugged into the computer which helps to connect the keyboard to the computer for using it. On the other hand, a wireless keyboard doesn’t have a wire, it works the same as a wireless mouse. The receiver is plugged into the computer as a USB.
Wired keyboards have the disadvantage that you cannot have your keyboard as far away from your computer as the length of the wire if of a certain length. Wired keyboards can also clog your desktop. A wireless keyboard might be a good choice if you want something less messy and comfortable.
Consumers can benefit from wireless keyboards in particular. In the first place, a wireless keyboard reduces desk clogging by eliminating wires. You don’t have to sit at your desk all day long because you can use it wherever you want. For example, you type on your sofa or in a garden, etc. You no longer need to use computers only in the office to take advantage of this.
Comparison Table Between Wired keyboards and Wireless keyboards
What is Wired Keyboard?
A wired (or standard) keyboard implies that your keyboard is connected to your computer by a wire of a limited length. This type of keyboard is also known as a mechanical or standard keyboard. The end of the wire is a USB plug that connects to a USB port on your computer. Unlike wireless keyboards, wired keyboards provide a direct connection so the chance or misfunction of this type of keyboard is very less. They transfer the instructions so fast that there is almost no delay in the typing on the monitor.
Wired keyboards have the disadvantage that you cannot have your keyboard as far away from your computer as the length of the wire if of a certain length. Wired keyboards can also clog your desktop. A wireless keyboard might be a good choice if you want something less messy and comfortable. They also have many advantages and are used by professionals like professional gamers, typists, or even a normal person who just wants to type his assignment down for a job or school. They use wired keyboards because there’s no delay and just enhances the speed of the writer. Hence they are very reliable.
What is Wireless Keyboard?
Unlike the wired keyboard, infrared beams are used to transmit typing data from the keyboard to the computer in a wireless keyboard. The keyboard sends a beam of information to a computer receiver, which is plugged into the computer as you type. It eliminates the possibility of another tangled cable behind your computer by providing a cordless experience that looks more clean and reliable. It is also common for many consumers to purchase a wireless mouse to complement a wireless keyboard so that your desk is free of any wires that can clog your desktop area and make it look messy.
Using a wireless keyboard also means that you can place it in a position that would be otherwise impossible with a corded version. Infrared keyboard receivers must, however, be placed in a position from which the infrared beam can easily reach them and if they’re not placed correctly, a delay can be seen on the monitor. The wireless keyboard will not be able to transmit its signal to the computer if it is not pointed directly at the receiver or if the line of sight is blocked between the keyboard and receiver because this will block the sight of the infrared beam which are received on the receiver plugged in the USB slot of the computer. If the keyboard is not angled correctly or if someone is walking between it and the receiver, the user may have difficulty communicating.
Main Differences Between Wired Keyboard and Wireless Keyboard
- In wired keyboards, the information travels through copper or fiber wires whereas, in wireless keyboards, the information travels through the air using infrared beams.
- In wired keyboards, the person using them is confined to the desktop as the wire is limited whereas, in wireless keyboards, the person can use them wherever he wants because the medium of infrared beams has a larger range.
- The wired keyboards are directly connected to the computers and thus there is no delay in the transferred information whereas the wireless keyboard isn’t connected directly to the computer, the person using it may experience a slight delay in the transferred information.
- The wired keyboards are more reliable because there is no tension of battery life whereas the wireless keyboards are less reliable as one may never know when the keyboard’s battery is going to get exhausted.
- The wired keyboards are less flexible to changes whereas the wireless keyboards more flexible to the configuration.
Conclusion
The keyboard is one of the most essential parts of the computer and we should be aware of its types. Both wired and wireless keyboards have their advantages and disadvantages. It’s up to the individual to select which one of the keyboards they want according to their requirements. In wired keyboards, the person using them is confined to the desktop as the wire is limited whereas, in wireless keyboards, the person can use them wherever he wants because the medium of infrared beams has a larger range. The wired keyboards are less flexible to changes whereas the wireless keyboards more flexible to the configuration.
